Sealed Crawlspace Created Mold & Secondary Damage
Challenge
Our customer in a misguided effort to get rid of a pest problem in the crawlspace had a pest control company seal the entire crawlspace off including vents with Closed Cell Spray Foam. An ongoing undetected soil pipe repair leak cast iron/PVC combination (bad idea) provided a food source and water to this now sealed environment. As the photos will demonstrate this environment has encouraged very active microbial growth (mold) however the damage did not stop there. The moisture trapped in the crawlspace had nowhere to go but up, gradually over time into the flooring system above, and now the hardwood floors are at their limit and heaving.
Solution
We have prepared a preliminary estimate for our customers with recommendations beyond the limited mold remediation. Ill-advised band-aid solutions, especially such as this can prove very costly in the long run. We have expressed our desire to produce a complete solution for our customers.
